Coming up in this entry: we teach many English classes and discuss what we could do better..

9:45pm

This morning, went on a bike ride with Jeri (up a huge hill) early and went to the foot onsen... if only I could motivate myself to get up and do that kind of thing at home!

We all biked to the church around 10:30 for daycare English classes... did songs, games (duck duck goose w/ Moe and Laurel's classes), then broke off into our age-divided classes. My class worked on alphabet stuff and they seemed to enjoy the slap game and memory games. After classes wrapped up we had lunch with the kids.

On the way home we went to the grocery store near the turn-off for the church and got some nice stuff there... there's always something new to see at these stores.

At home, we prepped a bit for evening classes, hungout, cleaned house a bit, and biked to the river & put our feet in :)

At the Aoki's later in the evening Jeri and I went upstairs to what we thought was a beginner kids' class but the material was totally way below the level of the kids who were there (2 5th & 6th girls and a boy). we zipped through the kids' lesson and then they cut out stuff and did crafty things... but they seemed to have fun, at least... :S Laurel and Maureen had the younger group and they said it went pretty well. The two groups joined up when class finished for snacks and a Bible story courtesy of Ms Aoki (who used some pretty crazy voices!).

Had dinner there with the Aoki's, then a long break where Jeri, Maureen and Laurel read the dialogues for our next classes in high gollum-like voices and cracked us all up.

Our evening English class ended up with only 2 Jr High girls (who were pretty shy!). we made it through lesson 1 and the class fell apart when we started looking at the English books they had from school. they liked the ball toss and random famous name cue card drill though :S

Ito-sensei followed us home to make sure we were safe (it was after dark by that point) and we de-briefed the day and talked about what we could do better in the future.

Lord, please shine through us...

Laurel's blog post from this day: (here)
"Hey weve started english classes, and theyre way cool. All the kids here are so cute and smart its insane. The kids are always a highlight of our days. thanks to everyone for all your prayers. well add more later. (it really hard to find punctuation marks on these keyboards)"

Quick facts...
> In Japan, rice is more expensive than it is in the US.

> You can purchase hot coffee and cold milk from the same vending machine.

> Less than 1% of Japanese are Christians.

Reading...
"Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, 'Sword, go through that land'..."
--Ezekiel 14:17, NKJV (just a funny verse :D)
