Coming up in this entry: We fly to Japan, going forward in time and landing a day later! also, naked onsen fun!

11:25am PST

Sitting on the plane @ LAX. Had a morning of wandering around our super cool hotel, which was encapsulated by skylights and had koi and turtles in a pond - it looked a lot like a palace! Said goodbye to the US Asian Access staff as well.

Soon, I know, we'll be crossing the international date line and it will be tomorrow, though our bodies will think it's 12 or 1 in the morning.

11:41am still waiting...

11:47am starting to move!

12:09pm Wow! Just took off. passed the coastline in seconds and are now enveloped in fog. Totally white out the windows. Broke through and now it's all blue with that thick fog carpet below us.

12:20 lots of mountains below us... we must be flying up the coastline. They also have the cool progress-meter thing up on the screen.

12:27 just outed the mentos and chocolate and CD player. Will probably want to break out the Bible and Japanese book eventually

12:35 I think it's around 4:35am tomorrow, Japan Time?

Riding along the coastline... very cool-looking... so empty, uninhabited!

Oo! I see the beverage cart coming! :D

I guess we'll only have dialup access in Japan, but that's ok, I'm prepared!

Sitting next to Moe - Jeri and Laurel are scattered further up the plane.

1:10pm PST listening to Jars of Clay "Who we are instead" ...
food!

1:50pm heh... Korean music videos

2:02pm might be watching a movie... they had us shut all the windows. Now it feels like a big box.

3:05pm PST (7am JST?) Still truckin along... no movie yet. Moe's listening to the Bills. Had odd Korean dinner. The Ministry Manual and my walk-thru Bible are sitting in front of me waiting for attention... as is my Japanese :S

So much to remember... how to behave, where to go, how to teach English... a lot to think about!
In my weaknessess He is strong and makes me strong...

Startin to get a lil sleepy.

3:30pm PST (7:30am JST) - finished "the Silver Chair" (CS Lewis)

4:25 Luke 6:32-36 "if you love those that love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. ... For He is kind to the unthankful and evil."
A bad tree does not bear good fruit (and vice versa)

5:39pm PST - 4 hours 51 min left, according to the thingy on the screen.

6:48pm (10:48am JST) Just played doodle games :)

7:30pm PST dozed off for awhile.. looks like we're 3/4 the way there! 2 hrs 49 min left!

9:09pm PST can see islands out the window.. China? Russia?

1:40pm JST 6/23/04 (9:40 pm PST 6/22/04) 49 minutes to destination.. Moe and I talked about the onsen tonight (which we'll have to enjoy naked, eep :S) and nakedness in general..

9:21pm JST

Just got back from the 100 yen internet room where I kinda updated the blog and sent a few emails.

We bussed to the Narita hotel (another huge place with a sports area, pool, sauna, etc) after de-planing and trained for a wee while, then had Chinese dinner in the large upstairs buffet area. The elevators in this hotel are completley walled with mirrors so naturally we had to take a reflection photo. After dinner everyone went to the hotel onsen... in traditional (thankfully, not co-ed) style. We put on the provided pink robes in our hotel room and ran, tittering and giggling, down the stairs into the onsen area, where we quickly "showered" sitting down and then made a naked dash for the hot pools. Ahh, awkward nakedness. Luckily, us summer team girls were the only ones in the onsen at that time so we didn't have to face awkwardness with the locals... quite yet. Much laughter abounded, as well as trips to the cold pool and suffocating sauna. Then it was back to the rooms to prepare for bed... I really am a little droopy-eyed... no wonder as it's 5:26am back home. At least it feels more like 9pm to me - well... maybe midnight.

Off to bed...

Quick facts...
> In Japan, rice is more expensive than it is in the US.

> You can purchase hot coffee and cold milk from the same vending machine.

> Less than 1% of Japanese are Christians.

Reading...
"Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, 'Sword, go through that land'..."
--Ezekiel 14:17, NKJV (just a funny verse :D)

"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
--John 8:36, NKJV
