Konnichiwa minna-san! (Hello everyone!) Welcome to the official webpage for the summer missions team to Japan from Independent Bible Church. Here you will find our posts throughout the trip (which are below this introduction), and various updates on our ministry once it begins.
If all goes well, we will be serving God in Japan from June 21 to August 7, 2004, working with Asian Access/LIFE Ministries at a pre-established church. Japan is a fascinating nation filled with wonderful, intelligent people, but sadly, Christianity makes up only 1/2 of 1% of the religious atmosphere. It is a nation lost in worldly religion and one that desperately needs Christ.
We are currently in the process of raising the required funds necessary to get us to Japan. If you would like to support us, either through prayer (which is also much needed) or through a financial contribution, please email us at japan2004@aveiceae.com. Thank you kindly and God bless!

Presentation
posted by: court
We got our first church presentation over with yesterday, giving a 5-minute talk at each of the two services. All four of us spoke, passing the mic down the line and reading off pre-prepared notecards (so that, in our nervousness, we wouldn't just stand there going "Uhm.... uhm... aahhh... we're going to Japan!"). The first time was a little rough around the edges as expected; we fumbled a few words in our jittery stage-fright and I don't think any of us smiled, at all, ever, but the second time around went much better (at least for me - Laurel said she was more nervous) and a few folks came up to us afterward and said they wanted to help support us, so yay! Things are really moving along. We'll meet again tonight and go over some of our Japanese and hopefully start to memorize things.
3 months till the Team Leader retreat. Oy.
Keep us in your prayers!

I made sushi!

Kinda. Anyhow. It actually was not bad, and Courtney and Laurel ate it. Maybe by the time I get to Japan, it will be perfected and better than Oka-san's. (Our sushi restaurant in town which is really good.) Then I ate wasabi out of a tube and it was really hot and my nose almost fell off and my hair hurt. Have a nice day!
