Konnichiwa minna-san! (Hello everyone!) Welcome to the official webpage for the summer missions team to Japan from Independent Bible Church. Here you will find our posts throughout the trip (which are below this introduction), and various updates on our ministry once it begins.

If all goes well, we will be serving God in Japan from June 21 to August 7, 2004, working with Asian Access/LIFE Ministries at a pre-established church. Japan is a fascinating nation filled with wonderful, intelligent people, but sadly, Christianity makes up only 1/2 of 1% of the religious atmosphere. It is a nation lost in worldly religion and one that desperately needs Christ.

We are currently in the process of raising the required funds necessary to get us to Japan. If you would like to support us, either through prayer (which is also much needed) or through a financial contribution, please email us at japan2004@aveiceae.com. Thank you kindly and God bless!

Update

posted by: court
The ball's still rolling! We had an official Japan meeting thingy last night wherein we went over the religious history of Japan a little bit, talked about our expectations/desires for the trip, and studied some beginning Japanese, which was fun. Laurel got into it which was cool, because she's always had some apprehensions about language learning. In the end though, she was pronouncing/memorizing things better than Maureen (who has been studying longer), so I think she may have a natural sort of inclination toward learning language - she's just never done it before and was a bit freaked out at first. But she and Maureen had a great time reading off the dialogues I'd made (I used anime character names and their names) and I think language study for the next several months is going to be good times. We're going to delve into Buddhism next time around, I think, and study a little bit of the history of it, how it works, and the basic beliefs of it, to better understand our task and how to effectively witness to the people who are so mired in it.

New Teammate

posted by: court
Well it looks like we've picked up a new teammate. The three of us all agreed that Jeri Lausch, a mutual friend of ours, would be a great addition to the Japan Team after she expressed an interest in going. So we're a team of 4 now, and Jeri's photos and bio should pop up on the sidebar in a little while. :) I met with our Missions Director, Bruce Swenson, last night, and we went over our expectactions for the trip, as well as planned out our presentation to the church (IBC) Nov. 23. I'm hoping to get all the team member apps. in by Thanksgiving and get them off to LIFE Ministries before the deadline (which is the end of January next year). I'll go off to the Team Leader retreat in March and then we have until June 21 to raise all of our funds (3 months!!)... Well, the ball is rolling!

I'm so dumb with computers

Well this is my first blog entry...Yahoo! Courtney had to show me how to do all this technical posting stuff. Courtney doesn't always look like a modle like in her picture, and with the right lighting we even made my face look clear for my web cam pics. Well folks, peace out. -Moe

Grr

I tried to get this blog to publish to my new domain (aveiceae.com) but for some reason it won't. I guess it will have to stay here for the time being, grr.

Bio updates

posted by: court
I changed Maureen's photos (to the lower right and on her bio page) at her request, as she hated both of them. :) I actually plopped her down in front of my webcam and took a bunch of pictures and let her pick the ones she liked. We also added backgrounds to our bio pages using photos taken by the talented Jeff of Sushicam. (Laurel if you want a photo background, let me know...)
